Freedom Friday May 2013
A monthly collection of freedom-affirming experiences…
SPIRIT
Read: In the Body of the World by Eve Ensler
A few weeks ago, I heard Eve read from her newest book, which chronicles her diagnosis and ensuing struggle with stage IV uterine cancer in 2010. I’ll be doing a longer review and giveaway of this book in the next couple of weeks, but I have to tell you – hearing Eve speak about her journey with cancer is one of the most powerful experiences I’ve ever had. In the Body of the World is an amazing read – it will leave you marveling at the human capacity for courage and compassion, and feeling more connected with the world. Highly recommended.
FINANCES + LIVELIHOOD
Learn: Fall in Love with Your Work
I’m offering the group version of my popular e-course next month – this 30-day adventure is designed for anyone who feels stuck in their professional life and wants to forge a path toward more meaningful work. I love teaching this course and it’s been great to watch participants make big breakthroughs in their journey to create right livelihood. I hope you’ll join me for Fall in Love with Your Work this June!
CREATIVITY
Create: Community Prayer Flag Project
My friend Ruth Davis, a gifted woman who does everything from helping people love their Mac computers to providing inspirational coaching, is now organizing the Community Prayer Flag Project. And you’re invited to contribute your creativity! This project offers people an opportunity to express their deepest wishes and most heartfelt prayers for themselves, their families, and the world. Check out the CPFP if you’re interested in creating a one-of-a-kind prayer flag, purchasing flags, or doing both!
THE WORLD WE LIVE IN
Act: Strike Debt
Strike Debt, also known as the Rolling Jubilee, is a delightfully subversive project from the Occupy community. The idea is to raise money to buy debt for pennies on the dollar – just like the big banks do – but then forgives the debt instead of trying to collect it from folks who are hard-pressed to pay. Yes, debt liberation! Strike Debt has already successfully wiped out $1.1 million of medical debt for more than 1,000 people. Find out more about the project here: http://strikedebt.org/
Be Inspired: Occupy Love
Speaking of the Occupy movement, put this new documentary on your ‘must-see’ list. Director Velcrow Ripper has devoted thousands of hours of time over the past year to explore the question: “How could the crisis we are facing become a love story?” The result is “Occupy Love,” a beautiful film that captures the sights and sounds of a revolution of love and features visionaries such as Naomi Klein, Bill McKibben, Roshi Joan Halifax, bell hooks, and Charles Eisenstein. (And I even got my name in the end credits!) Find out where it’s showing here.
What are you excited about this month? What great stuff do you know about to share with all of us? Leave a comment below… I’d love to hear about it!
