Freedom Friday January 2014
It’s back! The “Freedom Friday” monthly list of my most favorite resources for living a liberated life. This one includes some don’t-miss live and virtual events, as well as a couple of great new books.
SPIRIT
3 Shamanic Tools for Everyday Life (Jan 12)
My friend Luisa Kolker is a gifted teacher, therapist, and healer. She’s based in my hometown of Santa Fe, but this free teleseminar gives folks all over the world a chance to benefit from Luisa’s wisdom and experience (and she’s also a lot of fun). This is Luisa’s first-ever teleseminar and I’ll be hosting it for her, so I hope you’ll join us! It’s happening Sunday, January 12, at 5 pm Pacific Time. Go to this page to listen in – you can ask questions too!
Self-Care and Social Change: A Women’s Eco-Spirituality Leadership Retreat (Jan 31 – Feb 2)
Designed for activists, educators, and healers, this oceanside women’s retreat in Oregon provides space for participants to connect with their intuition while engaging in creative practices that nurture personal and collective re-generation. This is sure to be a powerful and beautiful retreat. One of the facilitators is Nicole Sangsuree Barrett, a dynamic young woman I met last summer while I was teaching in Thailand. For more info, contact her at boeh@pdx.edu or call 503-475-9160. And take a look at the Facebook page for the International Spiritual Ecology Center for Women.
LIVELIHOOD
Two fantastic new books just published on right livelihood… I was delighted when they both showed up in my mailbox on the same day.
Real Happiness at Work: Meditations for Accomplishment, Achievement, and Peace
Beloved meditation teacher Sharon Salzberg has pulled together this very helpful collection of teachings and exercises to help us bring the benefits of mindfulness into the workplace. I was honored that she included some of the writing that is part of my “Fall in Love with Your Work” course. This is a excellent book.
Body of Work: Finding the Thread That Ties Your Story Together
This is Pamela Slim’s second book and it’s sure to become a classic in the field of career crafting. Think of it as the new “What Color is Your Parachute?” Pam helps us to navigate the brave new world of work where it’s common to have many diverse jobs over the course of our lifetime. This book will help you find the story that is at the root of all your work, learn how to share this story, and create opportunities for yourself.
CREATIVITY
Grand Opening: Transformative Arts Studio (Feb 22)
Do you live in Southern California,or will you be visiting there in February? If so, make a special trip to the Channel Islands Harbor (near Oxnard) to help Leslie Rinchen-Wongmo celebrate the opening of her Threads of Awakening Transformative Arts Studio. I may even be there! Leslie has long dreamed of having a place where she could not only stitch sacred silk thangkas but also meet with people interested in learning about Tibetan art. The Threads of Awakening Transformative Arts Studio will be just such a place, and more. Find out more here.
