Resources to support true freedom in your life

It’s a long holiday weekend (at least in the U.S.)… the perfect time to browse through this list and find something that will light up your life.

This month’s Freedom Friday starts with two books published by friends and colleagues; I’m delighted that each includes some content from the Liberated Life Project.

SPIRIT

Mindfulness Starts Here is a brilliant new book from Lynette Monteiro and Frank Musten. Both are clinical psychologists based in Ottawa and longtime meditation practitioners. Lynette is also a graduate of the Upaya Zen Center Buddhist Chaplaincy Program. This book masterfully breaks down the concept of mindfulness into eight easy-to-work-with modules that can help change the way you live your life. I’m honored that Lynette and Frank asked to include “The Liberated Life Guide to Meditation” in the book’s appendix!

An Amateur’s Guide to the Pursuit of Happiness is Britt Reints’ wonderfully personal take on how to master the art of happiness. Britt and I first crossed paths when we discovered each others’ blogs (hers is In Pursuit of Happiness) Not long after that, she donated a car to a family in need through a “Love Drop” campaign on my blog. That kind of generosity and big spirit comes through in her writing… this book is highly recommended.

How to Live With Ease
I’ve long admired Sandra Pawula’s blog, Always Well Within. Now Sandra has created her first e-course – “Living With Ease: 21 Days to Less Stress.” It’s designed to support you to heal patterns of stress in an atmosphere of love, care, and support.  Knowing the high quality of everything else Sandra puts out, I am sure this will be a great course! The start date is September 9; find out more here.

LIVELIHOOD

Fall in Love with Your Work this October!
Work. You spend most of you waking hours in it. Shouldn’t you LOVE it?! In October I’ll be offering the group version of my popular e-course to help you do just that – this 30-day adventure is designed for anyone who wants to forge a path toward more meaningful work. I love teaching this course and it’s been great to watch participants make big breakthroughs to create right livelihood. I hope you’ll join me for Fall in Love with Your Work this October!

CREATIVITY

September 22: Jami Sieber in Concert at Upaya Zen Center
Jami’s concerts are always magical occasions, as she fills the air with the beautiful and evocative sounds of her electric cello. This concert is happening right next door to me, in the sacred space of Upaya Zen Center’s meditation hall.  Jami will be celebrating her new CD, Timeless. Don’t miss this evening… it’s worth a trip to Santa Fe! There is a discount on advance sale tickets – find ‘em here.

WORLD WE LIVE IN

Syria… Peace, Please
Like many of you, I’ve been keeping a close eye on the news about Syria and feeling quite worried about the potential military response that is being considered. A few days ago I was moved to write this piece on my other blog, the Jizo Chronicles: “All Necessary Measures: Responding to Syria with Our Imagination.” It includes a call to action that I hope you’ll take up… contacting President Obama and your congressional representative to make your voice heard on the matter.
