Healing and Hope with the 13 Grandmothers
The International Council of 13 Indigenous Grandmothers was initiated in 2004 with the intention of supporting peace and sustainability for all people. The women come from all four corners of the world. For three nights, October 4 – 6, this revered group of elders will offer their wisdom, prayers, healing, and blessings to help us navigate the times ahead, connect with our souls, and awaken a deeper connection with the web of life. Learn how you can join this virtual circle with the 13 Grandmothers, which also serves as a fundraiser to support their upcoming trip to Brazil.

The Enlightenment of Immediate Relief
Danielle LaPorte’s writing practically crackles off the page (or in this case, website). I love her latest piece on the power of removing “energy leaks” from our lives in order to liberate our full attention and potential. Here’s an excerpt to entice you: “Noticing — really noticing — what’s rubbing on you is part of being conscious. When subtleties grab your attention you are not OCD, you’re lucid. When you deal with the annoyances, you’re not a control freak, you’re the master of your reality.” Danielle is also the creator of the magnificent Spark Kit (formerly known as The Fire Starter Sessions), a wonderful way to ignite your creative fire.

Finances/Livelihood

Help Getting Your Business Off the Ground
If you’re just starting your own business or have a vision of doing so, this is a very helpful article on estimating start up costs. It includes a link to a “Starting Costs Calculator” and it’s a nice complement to a guest post that I shared on the LLP several months ago, “15 Tips for Starting a Small Business on a Shoestring,” by Aysha Griffin.

Work… Home… Life
Speaking of resources for those of you who are getting started with your own business, Emily Breder’s new website, The Working Homemaker, is full of great information on discovering “perfect livelihood.” Emily’s philosophy supports people to “balance home and work, leaving nothing out and yet leaving room for personal growth.”

Creativity

My friend Lauren has a practice of taking a photo each day, inspired by the book 365: A Daily Creativity Journal: Make Something Every Day and Change Your Life! Take a look at her beautiful website, called Koru 365. Maybe you’ll be inspired to start a daily creative practice in your life as well. (Lauren is also the author of a guest post on the Liberated Life Project: “Gardening as a Practice.”)

The World We Live In

A Movie for Our Times
American Ubuntu
is film about spiritual and political intrigue, set against the backdrop of 9/11. The movie explores the question: What is security, and how do we find it? and the possibilities for reconciliation across the great social divides of our times through the stories of an FBI agent, a former Black Panther, and a hip-hop shaman. You can help the filmmakers demonstrate that there is an audience for this movie by signing up on the mailing list here.

A Zen Priest at the Tar Sands Action
Finally, you might be interested this post that I published last week on my other blog, The Jizo Chronicles. It’s from Shodo Spring, a Zen Buddhist priest, about her experience of bearing witness at the Tar Sands Action in Washington, DC. Shodo was arrested for civil disobedience in front of the White House, and she writes beautifully about her commitment to caring for the earth.
