Freedom Friday: 6/3 Resource Round-up

"You must learn to be still in the midst of activity and to be vibrantly alive in repose." -Indira Gandhi
Most Fridays, I put together this ‘resource round-up’ of news, events, and articles that I hope will inspire and support you in living a liberated life. If you have suggestions to share with other readers, please post in the comment section.

Change Your Life, One Step at a Time
A few weeks ago, Katie Tallo wrote a great post titled “The Seed of Change” on her blog, Momentum Gathering. It’s about how to make changes in our lives, and it’s simple yet quite powerful. An excerpt: “You don’t have to be brave, perfect, completely prepared or fearless. You can simply decide that today you are going to get your body back. Today, you are going to teach yourself something new, begin a good habit, give up a bad one or be more loving.” (By the way, I’ve been trying out Katie’s “Life Cleanse Kit” the past few weeks and love it!)
Rumi for a Year
What would a little Rumi in your in-box for the next 365 days do to nourish your spirit? “A Year of Rumi” is an on-line course from Andrew Harvey, an internationally renowned religious scholar, writer, and teacher. Harvey is the author of over 30 books, including The Way of Passion: A Celebration of Rumi, and The Hope: A Guide to Sacred Activism. One of the nice features of this course is that it’s based on a “pay what you can” model–you can pay as little as $1 to receive your daily dose of Rumi for an entire year!

Grants for Women Business Owners
If you’re a woman who’s starting a small business, either home-based or online, you can apply for an Amber Grant for a small amount of funding to help get you going. The grants, usually $500 to $1000, are intended to be used to upgrade equipment, pay for a web site, etc. Application deadline is August 31, 2011. Learn more here.

A Guide to Engaged Parenting
You don’t have to be a Buddhist to appreciate this article, “A Guide to Buddhist Parenting,” written by John Pappas, a father who readily acknowledges his own struggles in this area. John includes a list of the “Ten Precepts of Engaged Parenting,” which includes things like “Don’t make promises you can’t keep” and “Provide respect.” A good read for parents and all human beings!
The World We Live In
15 Years of Positive Outcomes!
My favorite magazine, Yes! The Journal of Positive Futures, celebrates its 15th anniversary this week. Every month, Yes! turns out excellent articles that address social and environmental challenges with intelligence, resilience, and a spirit of optimism. Some recent articles that I’ve really appreciated: “10 Ways to Solve the Jobs Problem,” “Connecting Prisons With Nature,” and “Peak Oil: A Chance to Change the World.” Read and enjoy!
