Freedom Friday: 6/24 Resource Round-up
Most Fridays, I put together this ‘resource round-up’ of news, events, and articles that I believe will inspire and support you in living a liberated life. If you have suggestions to share with other readers, please post in the comment section.
Here’s this week’s list…
Spirit
101 Quotes to Light Up Your Life
I’m all into quotes these days. Sandra Pawula, creator of the blog Always Well Within, put together this fantastic collection of quotes a while back. As she writes, “Let this bounty of wisdom infuse your life with joy and meaning, one moment at a time.” Thank you, Sandra!
Finances/Livelihood
What’s Your Legacy?
“Blow Up Traditional Careers in Favor of Bodies of Work” is a phenomenal article by Pam Slim (author of Escape From Cubicle Nation), perfectly in alignment with the spirit of the Liberated Life Project. Pam deftly takes apart the assumption that our success depends on “making decisions based on a singular work path,” and shows how to expansively think of the legacy that we leave behind us. Highly recommended!
Relationships
Staying Empowered
When a relationship goes bad, it can be tempting to fall into victim mode. But there is another, more liberating way. That was the focus of my post “Survival Kit for Those Times When Life Turns You Upside Down” and this CNN article looks at the story of Huma Abedin (the wife of the now-infamous Rep. Anthony Weiner) in a similar light. The article, by Katia Hetter, is all about how to stay empowered and free ourselves from the idea of “victim.”
The World We Live In
Video Interview with Joanna Macy
Eco-philosopher Joanna Macy is one of the most inspirational people on the planet these days. For decades, she has helped people to find their way through despair about the state of the world to empowerment to take compassionate action. In this half-hour video interview, Joanna talks about the great opportunity that we are given to make a difference during these challenging times. (If you are interested in more of Joanna’s work, check out the book Coming Back to Life: Practices to Reconnect Our Lives, Our World.)
Elephants and the Liberated Life Project in the Bay Area!
On Sunday, July 10, I’ll be attending a wonderful event in Cupertino, California to benefit the Boon Lott’s Elephant Sanctuary in Thailand. I visited this sanctuary on my trip to Asia this past winter and was very moved by their dedication to these marvelous animals. Cellist Jami Sieber will be performing at this event, and there will be yummy food and other entertainment. I’d love to meet Liberated Life Project readers at the benefit – let me know if you’ll be there!

Hi Maia!
Thanks so much for including me! Do you know what is soooo trippy?
I was almost going to include Joanna Macy in my “Bodies of Work” post, but ran out of time before I hit publish. I couldn’t believe the coincidence when you included your interview with her on this same post! Now that’s synchronicity!
Have a great weekend!

Hi Maia,
Thanks for another rich resource roundup (how’s that for rrrrr’s!)! I love your roundups because they always introduce me to people that i haven’t met (yet) and reconnect me with people I appreciate but haven’t seen in awhile. I like the idea that Joanna offers at looking at the “opportunities” this world presents to make a difference. Thanks for including my treasury of quotes. Every time I read them, they spark me. I hope they help others in the same way. Thanks for all you do.
