Freedom Friday: 4th of July Edition
Most Fridays, I put together this ‘resource round-up’ of news, events, and articles that I hope will inspire and support you in living a liberated life. If you have suggestions to share with other readers, please post in the comment section.
Apologies to my international readers: I realize that a “4th of July Edition” is U.S.-centric…. but, after all, this is a holiday tailor-made for the Liberated Life Project!
Spirit
Soul Freedom
Soul Freedom: An Extraordinary Guide to Coming Unconditionally Alive is a deceptively simple book that carries a lot of wisdom. Several years ago, I had a few sessions with the author, Mark Schoofs, who is a gifted intuitive. I so much appreciated his ability to see our capacity for liberation and to nurture the seed of freedom in our lives. I’m not a ‘woo-woo’ person, but Mark is the real deal–check him out.

Create Your Own Declaration of Independence
I absolutely love this video from Pam Slim: My Declaration of Independence, which asks the great question: “What if you created your own declaration of independence?” What affirmations would you include? Some of my favorite lines from the video: “I am self-employed regardless of who pays me…I will not sell my soul or my ethics for money…I take responsibility for my own happiness.” (Pam is the author of Escape from Cubicle Nation.)
Relationships
Creating Conscious and Liberating Relationships
The Shift Network offers you a chance to hear a free teleseminar on “The 7 Keys to Conscious Partnering” with Gay and Katie Hendricks, authors of Conscious Loving: The Journey to Co-Commitment. In the seminar, Gay and Katie offer many practical insights and practices to create genuine, collaborative and thriving partnerships — romantic or otherwise. (Please note: Even though the seminar took place this past week, the link above allows you to download the recording so you can listen to it at your convenience.)
The World We Live In
And Then There’s Interdependence…
Several years ago when I worked at the Buddhist Peace Fellowship, my friend Alan Senauke wrote this essay called “A Declaration of Interdependence: A Call to Transform the Three Poisons for the Sake of All Sentient Beings.” A number of folks contributed to it, including David Loy, Diana Winston, and Robert Aitken Roshi. It’s a wonderful piece of writing that reminds us that even as we celebrate freedom, our happiness requires that we recognize how very much we’re connected to each other.
Elephants and the Liberated Life Project in the Bay Area!
And in case you didn’t see this last week, I’m sharing this one last time before I leave on my travels. On Sunday, July 10, I hope those of you in the Bay Area will join me for this wonderful event in Cupertino, California to benefit the Boon Lott’s Elephant Sanctuary in Thailand. I visited this sanctuary on my trip to Asia this past winter and was very moved by their dedication to these marvelous animals. Cellist Jami Sieber will be performing at this event, and there will be yummy food and other entertainment. Let me know if you’ll be there!
