Freedom Friday: 4/8 Resource Round-Up

on Apr 8, 2011 in Uncategorized | 0 comments

Every Friday, I put together this ‘resource round-up’ of news, events, and articles that I hope will nourish and inspire you. If you have suggestions to share with other Liberated Life Project readers, please do post in the comment section.

Spirit

Healing for Body, Mind, and Spirit
April 14th is the start of a 5-week telecourse called Bringing the Spirit of Shamanism into Your Everyday Life with Grandmother Flordemayo, a Mayan-trained priestess, healer, and member of the Council of the 13 Indigenous Grandmothers. Her teaching is focused on freedom of the heart and helping us navigate these times of accelerated change. This is a rare opportunity to be guided by one of our wise indigenous elders. Find out more here.

Wild Love for the World
And speaking of wise elders, Joanna Macy is another who we’re lucky to have living on the planet at the same time as all of us. Joanna is a Buddhist scholar and eco-philosopher who loves this earth with a passion, and with whom I’ve had the privilege to work alongside in a couple of Buddhist communities. If your soul is in need of some deep nourishment, listen to Joanna read some of her favorite poems from Rainer Maria Rilke and share what they mean to her. (Also, I recently featured a quote from Joanna that you might enjoy on my other blog, The Jizo Chronicles.)

Finances/Livelihood

R-E-S-P-E-C-T!
I’ve mentioned before that one of my big accomplishments over the past few years was liberating myself from more than $32,000 of credit card debt. One way I did it was by learning how to respect my money and my resources. This is exactly what Crys Williams of Big Bright Bulb writes about so well in this article titled “Paying the Pig.” It’s fun and serious all at the same time. Check it out.

Relationships

Relationships Are Easy?
That’s the title of this guest post on Zen Habits by Corey Allan… and it flies in the face of what we usually think. Or what I usually think, anyway. Here’s an excerpt: First and foremost, marriage is designed to help you grow up. It’s not about happiness. It’s not about becoming more complete, despite what Hollywood and popular press would like you to believe.” Hmmmm….

The World We Live In

Doing Good, Finding Meaning in Life
Once in a while, I run across a story about a person who is so remarkable that my faith in human nature is restored. Narayanan Krishnan is one of those people. In 2002, Narayanan quit his promising career as a five-star chef to bring meals to the homeless in Tamil Nadu, India. Now, through his nonprofit Akshaya Trust, he serves breakfast, lunch and dinner to 400 indigent and elderly people. This video about Narayanan’s story will take you only 1 minute and 34 seconds to watch, but I guarantee it will be one of the most powerful moments of your day.
