Freedom Friday: 4/22 Resource Round-Up

on Apr 22, 2011 in Uncategorized | 0 comments

Most Fridays, I put together this ‘resource round-up’ of news, events, and articles that I hope will nourish and inspire, and support you in living a liberated life. If you have suggestions to share with other readers, please do post in the comment section.

Spirit

Time to Clean Up!
It’s Spring! A good time to give your home a thorough cleaning, but how about your life? Check out the 7-Week Life Cleanse that Katie Tallo (of Momentum Gathering) has created to help support you let go of the old in order to make room for what’s most vital in your life. The kit includes an 86-page e-book, worksheets, and questions to serve as tools for change. UPDATE: Even though it’s past April 23, Katie is still offering the Life Cleanse at a discount — $10 (50% off the usual price). Still a great deal!

Inspiring Women Summit
The Shift Network is offering its 2nd annual free online Inspiring Women Summit, May 7th-13th. There’s a really great line-up of speakers, including Lynne Twist (author of The Soul of Money), Jean Houston, and Barbara Marx Hubbard. Topics include Conscious Parenting; Women, Food & God; and Awakening the Feminine Co-creator. The great thing about Shift Network presentations is that you can participate no matter where you live.

Creativity

Threads of Awakening
One of my favorite websites, Threads of Awakening, comes from Leslie Rinchen-Wongmo, one of the few Westerners trained in the art of making silk applique thanghkas (a Buddhist art form). Maybe it’s because I’ve got a textile fetish, and maybe it’s because Leslie seems like an extraordinary soul, but I find this a really wonderful spot to get some creative inspiration. Also consider signing up for Leslie’s “Weekly Wake Up” email series, where you receive inspiring wisdom quotes accompanied by some beautiful artwork.

The World We Live In

Why Bother? Michael Pollan Has an Answer
This is my all-time favorite Earth Day essay. In it, Michael Pollan, the author of The Botany of Desire, The Omnivore’s Dilemma, and Food Rules, is brave enough to dive into despair around our small efforts to address monumental problems, like climate change. But somehow he comes out the other side, in quite a miraculous way. Read it–you won’t regret it.
