Freedom Friday: 3/18 Resource Round-Up

on Mar 18, 2011 in Uncategorized | 0 comments

Every Friday, I put together this ‘resource round-up’ of news, events, and articles that I hope will nourish and inspire you. (And I share some of my favorite photos that I can’t figure out where else to place on this site!) If you have suggestions to share with other Liberated Life Project readers, please do post in the comment section.

Yoga in the Office
The Yoga Journal blog has a nice feature on “5 Ways to Take Yoga to the Office.” If you’re looking for a way to infuse more spaciousness and wellness into your workday, check it out.

Getting Your Feet Wet — Mindfully
If you’re relatively new to the concept of “mindfulness” but are ready to learn more about how to apply it to your own life, Fully Present: The Science, Art, and Practice of Mindfulness is a great introduction. The book includes a very accessible presentation of the science behind mindfulness and it also offers many easy-to-follow exercises to get you going. The authors, Susan Smalley and Diana Winston, head up UCLA’s Mindful Awareness Research Center.

Create Your Own “Declaration of Independence”
This 3-minute video
from Pamela Slim is the most inspiring thing I’ve seen in a while – it’s an invitation to write your own “declaration of independence.” One of my favorite lines: “I am self-employed regardless of who pays me.” If you need a boost of encouragement, spend a few minutes watching this and see what happens.

Need to make some extra money?
I’m always on the lookout for new ways to generate revenue for my “Freedom Fund.” Here’s one I had never thought of — this article from Wise Bread tells you how to make money taking online surveys and also provides a list of reputable sites.

Families Need Freedom Too!
I love the premise behind the Liberated Family blog: “A simple family discovers the freedom and small joys in following a less conventional path.”  This blog includes reviews of books and green products as well as stories from the life of one family living in a way that is true to themselves and each other.

The World We Live In

How to Help Japan
I’ve thought a lot about Japan this week… I imagine you have too. Here are several organizations to consider supporting:

  • Doctors Without Borders has sent medical teams to Japan to run mobile clinics and conduct needs assessments.
  • The Tzu Chi Foundation is a Buddhist-based relief organization that is organizing a command center to respond to the crisis
  • World Vets is an NGO that is putting together emergency response teams to aid animals in Japan
