Books + Writing
My first book, Work That Matters: Create a Livelihood That Reflects Your Core Intention, was published in December 2017 by Parallax Press.
My articles and essays have been published in both the academic and popular press. In my writing I focus on the intersection of spirituality and activism, as well as the application of contemplative practices to secular settings. Here are a few pieces in that vein:
- “Assessing the State of Contemplative Practices in the U.S.,” included in Contemplation Nation: How Ancient Practices Are Changing the Way We Live, edited by Mirabai Bush (2011).
- “Impossible Choices” included in Not Turning Away: The Practice of Engaged Buddhism, edited by Susan Moon (Shambhala Publications, 2004). You can also read this article here on my Jizo Chronicles blog.
- “Survey of Transformative and Spiritual Dimensions of Higher Education,” in the Journal of Transformative Education; July, 2003; co-authored with Arthur Zajonc and Diane Dana.
“Excellent work, very richly written, and a very valuable and timely contribution to the field… its publication will move further in the direction of greater networking, dialogue, collaboration, and research expressed as desired by a majority of respondents.”
~Laura Markos, editor of Journal of Transformative Education
